Understanding care costs and funding
Who pays for care depends on assessed needs, finances, circumstances and the type of support. The information below is a starting point, not a funding decision.
Local authority funding
You can ask your local council for a care needs assessment. If eligible needs are identified, the council may then complete a financial assessment to decide what it will contribute and whether you need to contribute.

NHS funding
Some people with a primary health need may qualify for NHS Continuing Healthcare. Others may qualify for NHS-funded nursing care. Eligibility is decided through the NHS assessment process, not by a care provider.
Paying privately
People who fund their own care should receive clear information about charges before agreeing a service. The final cost depends on the assessment, staffing, timing and complexity of support. Request an assessment for a tailored proposal.
